As most of you know, David coaches the 9th grade girls basketball team at the Junior High here. They had a game today against a local rival team. It has been a rough year for his team (they have not yet won a game). They were down 2-12 at half time (yes, that was the half time score!). His pointguard twisted her ankle, and several of his players just lost hope and basically stopped trying. With six minutes to go in the game, they were down 9-28ish. He cleared his players and put in his bench to give them playing time. The other team not only continued to play with all their starting players, but continued to full court press the ball until the end of the game. The final score was 9-47. David said there is an unspoken rule that when you are winning by that much, you don't continue to press the ball. I couldn't believe how classless that was on the part of the other team. What do you think?

definitely no class!
bad coach. that must have been pretty discouraging.
i'm not sure if you remember me, but i knew you back when...i was being nosy (one of the things i love about blogs is the nosiness it allows)and saw your post and i had to comment.
as the mother of a 12 year old girl who has been on the losing (last place) soccer team for 2 years and having experienced total annihilation like that with some teams she's played i agree it is awful. the girls on the winning team learn nothing about sportsmanship and the losers just feel crushed. super sad.
by the way...you have super cute kids.

no class for sure! I would understand if you were the losing and pressing the ball...but if you are winning by that much you should lay off. At least that's how we always played back in the day.
Absolutely ridiculous...sports seem to bring out the worst in some people. Shame on that coach!
No excuse for that. How did David keep from saying something to him after the game?
That is terrible. That just makes the team feel even worse. And I agree with Gina how does that teach them anything about good sportsmanship.
There was an article in the paper this past week about a team in Federal Way that won a game 112-10 or something like that. The athletic director for the school suspended the coach for 2 games.
Wow, Kurt, that is unbelievable. Good for that AD! David's team still has not won, but have been close a couple times. It would be nice for them to get at least one W for the record. The coach for the other team was a female. .. she wrote a letter of appology to David a couple days later. Water under the bridge, I guess.
